Not my father's son

I sit here on the last day of a week with the boy. Those who are or who have been closest to me know I always feared being like my old man. I love him but he was always at a distance. This week with the boy has truly made me realize I am nothing like him.

Camping, fishing, movies, golf the conversations are nothing I had with dear old dad. I never even knew who my dads pals were. My friends all embrace the boy and love being around with us. Yes, quite a huge difference from mine and my brothers weekends with our dad. I don't even recall spending weeks at a time with him. I don't mean to bash the man at all. It was different then I suppose. I know he loves both me and my brother. Looking back it was just so lacking.

Any way, it is what it is. I feel better about the father I am than I have in a long time.
I'm so glad the boy's back here. Thank you to his mom.

For what it's worth Joshie boy, your dad loves you more than anything. I don't have much to give but myself. When you get older you'll see that that is plenty.

Love,

Dad
